Barça lose Marc Guiu for a month as eight players called up for U17 World Cup

There is a strong Barcelona influence to Spain's squad for the tournament in Indonesia next month

Spain's squad for the U-17 World Cup, to be held in Indonesia from 10 November to 2 December this year, was named on Tuesday.

José Lana, who has taken over from Julen Guerrero, has provided a a list of players that was awaited with concern at FC Barcelona due to the large number of players likely to be summoned up that could affect the U19s, Barça Atlètic and the first team.

Among these players, one of the big names was Marc Guiu, the main protagonist of the last few hours of Barça news. Scorer of the goal that gave the team the victory against Athletic, at only 17 years of age and with the first ball he touched, he has been one of the players chosen as expected.

Guiu will be at Xavi's disposal for the games against Shakhtar, this Wednesday in the Champions League at Montjuïc, and Saturday's clásico against Real Madrid, also at the Lluís Companys.

However, from Sunday 29 October, he will be training with the Spanish U17 team to prepare for the World Cup, which takes place from 10 November to 2 December in Indonesia.

They travel to Indonesia on the 30th at midday, but the players who have commitments on Sunday (the reserve team against Osasuna) will be able to travel on Monday morning.

Who else do Barça lose?

He is not the only Barça player who has been called up: Pau Prim, Héctor Fort, Pau Cubarsí, Andres Cuenca, Marc Bernal, Quim Junyent and Juan Hernández will also be part of the squad for the tournament.

The requirement for inclusion in the squad is to be born on or after 1 January 2006. Guiu was already a key player in the last U17 European Championship, where he shared the front line with another of the great appearances of the Barça youth team: Lamine Yamal.

To these two, we must add the other four Barça players who were with 'La Rojita' in the tournament held last May: Héctor Fort, Pau Cubarsí, Pau Prim, Juan Hernández.

Yamal, who has already made his debut with the senior team, is one of the big absentees from José Lana's squad.
