The Argentine admitted he wasn't trying to set Pique up

Lionel Messi, who scored his 106th Champions League goal against PSV on Wednesday, said that he didn't know he'd broken the record for the most goals with one team in the competition.

"I found out recently, I wasn't aware of it but I am happy to learn about the statistic and happy to win another game," he told Movistar.

As well as scoring, Messi also set up Gerard Pique's goal as Barça won 2-1. The Argentine's free kick was deflected home by the defender -- although he denied it was intentional.

"It wasn't rehearsed, that's a lie!" he said, honestly, contradicting what Pique had joked to be true. "It was a poorly taken free kick, Pique was there and the goal was a little lucky."

Despite the win, Messi conceded Barça were not great on the night: "It was an open game. In the first half we lost a lot of easy balls. We gifted them too many counter-attacks and free kicks and they had a lot of chances. We knew we couldn't do that because they're a strong side.

"Then, at 2-0, they started getting a lot of crosses in. They had a lot of tall players in the box which is difficult to defend against."

With Luis Suarez missing, Messi was joined by Dembele and Coutinho in attack and he had words for the French forward.

"Dembele played a great game, as did the whole team," he added. "We've won and we're going home with our objective fulfilled, which is to have won the group, which is important. It was a difficult group."
