Barcelona are finding it difficult to offload players just 72 hours before the close of the transfer window

With three days remaining in the transfer window, Barcelona are not just focussing on signing new players. They are also trying to offload players that are not in Ernesto Valverde’s plans.

So far, Barça have only managed to offload three players: Cristian Tello, Mathieu and Sergi Sámper. Tello moved to Betis for €4 million, while the Frenchman moved to Sporting Lisbon on a free transfer. Sergi Samper has been loaned to Las Palmas.

As a result, there are several players whose future is uncertain. Vermaelen, Douglas and Munir have returned from loan spells last season. Vermaelen may still stay at Barça with Valverde’s approval. Douglas is attracting interest from Benfica but the Portuguese club are unable to match his wages. Another loan may be the solution. Munir’s future is perhaps the clearest. Monchi’s Roma want him but are unwilling to pay more than €10 million. They think that Barça will eventually let him leave for this fee and are willing to wait.

Another three players are in a more complicated situation. The first is Arda Turan, whose wages are presenting a stumbling block. The solution may be a loan deal even though the player wants to stay.

André Gomes’ names has been mentioned in the press in recent days. Juventus and PSG want him and Di Maria could be included in a deal. Jorge Mendes is working on both options.

The third player with an uncertain future is Rafinha. His injury makes a transfer difficult but the club would be willing to let him go now or in the winter.
