Barça could go into the World Cup break as La Liga leaders

| sport

A win against Osasuna would ensure Barça will sit atop the league table.

Real Madrid handed FC Barcelona the impetus after losing their game in hand to Rayo Vallecano in Vallecas. The Whites were outplayed across the pitch by the Vallecano side and ended up succumbing, thus losing their opportunity to climb above Barça as league leaders.

Barça's fate now rests in their own hands. The Blaugrana are two points ahead of Real Madrid in the standings after the thirteenth matchday and if they win against Osasuna they will go into the break as leaders, regardless of the result of Real Madrid's match against Cádiz.

Even a draw could suffice for Xavi's men to have their noses ahead. Barça are ahead of Real Madrid on goal defence by 9 goals. With the two teams not having played each other twice, this will be the deciding factor in case of a points tie.

Apart from the extremely unlikely scenario where the Whites thrash Cádiz by more than nine goals, it is advantage Barça on the eve of the World Cup, as long as they don't lose.
