Valverde was happy with his side's performance in the goalless draw at Huesca

Ernesto Valverde was happy with Barcelona's goalless draw against Huesca after making 10 changes to his starting lineup.

The Barça coach made the changes with Tuesday's Champions League game against Manchester United in mind.

"There were a lot of changes and debuts," Valverde explained. "We're happy in that sense. We could have tried a little more in attack, but we're happy in general.

"It was a difficult situation because a lot of new players came in, but it's what we had to do today. We changed the system because we had a problem in the full-back positions. We struggled at the start but we improved."

Valverde's wholsesale changes allowed Jean Clair Todibo, Riqui Puig and Moussa Wague to all make their first team debuts for the club.

"It was Todibo's first game with us, Riqui and Moussa were making their league debuts," the coach added. "They all got better as the minutes passed. You have to understand the circumstances which surrounded the match.

"Riqui's a player who's good with the ball and has a presence, he doesn't hide."

Pressed on his changes, Valverde added: "Of course we always want to win but it's true there were some exceptional circumstances for us here.

"We'd played Wednesday [against United] and we have the second leg on Tuesday. I thought it was time to make changes. So it was a test for the players and I think they did well."
