Huesca 0-0 Barcelona: Valverde's C team draw uneventfully

Ter Stegen (centro) fue el único titular indiscutible del Barça ante el Huesca | JAVI FERRÁNDIZ

German keeper Ter Stegen was the only player who started against Man United

In normal conditions a 0-0 draw at Huesca would be seen as an appalling result for Barcelona, but this was… fine.

Ernesto Valverde rested virtually his entire side, with only Marc-Andre ter Stegen playing from the team that started in Manchester on Wednesday.

That’s because on Tuesday, Barcelona do battle with Man United again at Camp Nou, bidding to reach the Champions League semi-finals.

So Valverde did something he doesn’t usually do, rotating wildly, trying a new 3-5-2 formation, bringing in lots of new faces.

Todibo, Wague, Riqui Puig, to name but a few, while Ousmane Dembele returned from injury.

The Frenchman should have sent Barcelona ahead but saw Huesca keeper Santamaria turn his effort wide from close range, before tipping over Jeison Murillo’s header.

Malcom struck the post in the second half and Carles Alena’s follow-up was deflected wide as Barca looked for a winner - but not too hard.

The Catalans move 12 points clear at the top of La Liga but Atletico can reign them back to nine if they beat Celta Vigo later Saturday.
