After another exhibition against Celtic, which Leo Messi’s goals helped Barcelona win 2-0, he can make another record—one which currently belongs to Cristiano Ronaldo.
The top goalscorer in the Champions League group phases is currently the Portuguese forward, who once scored 11 in the first phase of the competition in 6 games. Messi currently has 9, with one game to play, against Borussia Monchengladbach.
Messi is the top scorer in this year’s competition with PSG’s Edinson Cavani second on five. Messi also has only taken 11 shots in this tournament, so he has an 82 per cent conversion rate.
A more interesting record for Leo to beat would be Cristiano’s total of 17 goals in the entire competition set in 2013-14, when he hit 17 in 11 games. Messi’s best is 14 in 11 games in 2011-12.
