Barça must pay Gremio €2.8m on top of the agreed €30m in order to bring forward the move by six months

There is often a lot of work and long meetings behind any transfer and the one which brought Arthur to Barcelona is no exception. However, there are deals which are more complex than others, such as the small print and clauses which are added from both sides.

The incorporation of the Brazilian midfielder to Barcelona is thanks to the cordial relationship which exists between the two clubs. But also, from the point of view of Barcelona and Gremio, the professional attitude demonstrated by Arthur throughout the process. This made everything go smoother.

compensation

Sources at Gremio have revealed that the deal will end up costing Barcelona €32.8m. The agreement made back in March was for €30m: €4m to secure the first option on the player. To this you need to add €13m which would be paid in August of this year, plus the €13m left which would be paid in January 2019, which is when the player was originally supposed to join. In order to bring forward the deal, Gremio explained that Barça needed to pay another €2.8m as way of compensation, on top of the original €26m which will be paid in January.

the add-ons

Aside from the agreed €32.8m, there is another €9m made up of potential add-ons. This is dependent on the success he enjoys during his time at the Camp Nou.  In regards to Arthur's contract, he's signed a five-year contract which ties him to the club until the 30th June 2023. This is the maximum contract length allowed by FIFA, although there's also an option to extend his stay for another season.
