Alarm bells for Barcelona's Frenkie de Jong after Linares injury

The Dutch midfielder lasted 29 minutes after coming on as a substitute

Xavi brought Frenkie de Jong on at half-time of Barcelona's Copa del Rey tie against Linares on Sunday with the side 1-0 down.

De Jong came on for Riqui Puig but, just 29 minutes later, had to be taken off with what appeared to be a muscle injury, Alvaro Sanz taking his place.

By the time the Dutch midfielder came off, Barça had turned the tie around against the third division side with goals from Ousmane Dembele and Ferran Jutgla.

However, despite reaching the next round of the cup, the alarm bells are now ringing with fears De Jong could join the club's lengthy injury list.

He was checked by the medical staff after coming off at Linares and will undergo further tests back in Barcelona to determine the nature of the problem.
