Salma Paralluelo scored the only goal of the game in the Italian capital

Barcelona beat Roma 1-0 in the UEFA Women's Champions League quarterfinal first leg on Tuesday but will hope they don't come to regret not scoring more.

Salma Paralluelo scored the only goal of the game as Barca racked up over 30 shots in front of almost 40,000 supporters at the Stadio Olimpico.

And after failing to add to the tally, Barca then had to survive some late pressure from the Italian leaders, with Sandra Panos in good form in goal.

The teams will meet again in the second leg at Camp Nou next week, with a place in the semifinal against either Lyon or Chelsea up for grabs.

Paralluelo's goal arrived after 30 minutes of Barca dominance in the Italian capital but it was at the start of the second half when the visitors really turned up the heat.

Top scorer Asisat Oshoala saw chances saved, missed and cleared off the line, with the majority set up by Caroline Graham Hansen.

After weathering the storm, Roma smelt blood late on. Mapi Leon blocked from Valentina Giacinti from scoring and ex-Barca attacker Andressa Alves shot wide.

Panos then made good saves from Manuela Giugliano and Giacinti as Barca held on to return to Catalonia with a narrow advantage.
