Real Madrid will not be punished by UEFA for Euro Super League project

Los Blancos will not be thrown out of the Champions League or sanctioned for now

UEFA's executive committee have decided not to punish Real Madrid for their involvement in the European Super League.

Madrid president Florentino Perez was one of the leaders of the project and was due to be the first president of the league.

After the plans emerged, there was speculation that UEFA could seek to sanction the 12 clubs that had founded the competition.

Given the threat of that and various other problems arising, a number of clubs left the project, but Madrid remained involved.

That led to a rumour that Los Blancos could be thrown out of the Champions League -- if not this season (they are in the semifinal against Chelsea) then next.

However, UEFA have opted against taking any drastic measures against Madrid or the other breakaway clubs for now.
