The French coach believes his side were worthy victors against Barcelona on Sunday

Real Madrid coach, with his customary smile, felt his side's 2-0 Clasico win over Barcelona on Sunday at the Santiago Bernabeu was well deserved.

Barça wasted first-half chances, with Antoine Griezmann, Arthur Melo and Lionel Messi all missing openings, and were made to pay after the break.

Isco was twice denied by Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Karim Benzema fired over before Vinicius and Mariano sealed the three points for Madrid.

"I think we deserved the win for everything we did, defensively and in attack," Zidane said in a press conference. "The first half was even. Our high press wasn’t perfect but it was much better in the second half.

"It was an important three weeks after a difficult week. We're happy to be able to end it on a positive note."

With Eden Hazard injured and Rodrygo Goes suspended, Vinicius was preferred to Gareth Bale and the Brazilian delivered by opening the scoring.

"He did well," Zidane said. "He scored an important goal in an important game and I’m happy for him. He worked hard, not just in attack, but also in defence, which is what I would highlight."

"He has quality. You can’t control what people say outside of the club -- and he knows that. He is really young and he has to live with that, this is Real Madrid, but I’m happy with his performance, not just with the goal."
