The day that Cristiano Ronaldo disregarded the Ballon d'Or
Cristiano Ronaldo has now won five Ballon d'Ors, the same as Messi
But he wasn't such a fan of the award back in 2011
Cristiano Ronaldo, who this week won his fifth Ballon d'Or, drawing level with Lionel Messi, has changed his opinion on the award dramatically.
In 2011, when he won the Golden Shoe as Europe's top scorer, while Messi won the Ballon d'Or, Ronaldo took importance away from the prize supposedly given to the best footballer in the calendar year.
"The Ballon d'Or is votes, but the Golden Shoe is goals, it doesn't depend on anyone's votes," Ronaldo said as he received the award alongside Florention Perez and Alfredo Di Stefano.
Curiously, this year Messi has won the Golden Shoe, while Ronaldo has won the Ballon d'Or.
Barcelona star Messi, as is usual, didn't mention Ronaldo at the Golden Shoe ceremony, while it was completely the opposite with Ronaldo, who once again showed his arrogance.
