Real Madrid lose Gareth Bale to ankle injury until the month of April

The Welsh international is going to miss even more games than initially feared by Madrid

Welsh forward Gareth Bale will be out for four months. The Real Madrid star had an operation on an ankle injury in London this week, where he will remain for longer than expected with the problem more serious than initially thought.

According to Diario AS, the time given by the medics for Bale's recovery is four months, while they'd suggested between two and three months at first. That means Madrid will be without one of their stars until the month of April.

Bale could return for the final stretch of the season. However, he will miss as many as 14 La Liga games, the Club World Cup (he may not even be able to travel with the team to Japan due to his recovery schedule) and the last 16 of the Champions League. As for the Copa del Rey, he would be back for a hypothetical final.

Remember that the 27-year-old got injured in the game against Sporting in Lisbon on Nov. 22.
