“We’re very happy with the win, it was a tough game. All the teams come here to make it hard for us, at the end of the day they’re playing for life and death, but so are we,” said Madrid defender Alvaro Odriozola.
“We have to admit there are things we would like to improve but we won and that’s the important thing.
“Very often in football you don’t know why things you your way and sometimes they don’t. In the first half they didn’t, in the second they did.
“We lost the ball a lot and that helped them soar and they caused us danger. We didn’t shine as brightly as on other occasions but we had to win and we did, so we’re happy.”
Huesca went ahead, with Cucho Hernandez thrashing the ball past Zizou’s son Luca, whom he picked in goal over Keylor Navas.
However Isco equalised, stabbing in from close range after being set up by Brahim Diaz.
When Dani Ceballos tucked in at the back post it looked a formality for Madrid, but the same weakness they have shown in La Liga in the past four years reared up again.
Xabier Etxeita nodded in and it seemed Madrid were slipping, but a little luck saved them the three points when Benzema was left alone and he curled home.
It leaves Huesca seven points from safety and Madrid two behind second place Atletico, whom they are chasing.
