Madrid seal preferential Haaland agreement after meeting in Monaco

Emissaries from the club met with Haaland's lawyer and father recently

Real Madrid have sealed a preferential agreement to sign Erling Haaland with his agents. It's a step forward that gives the Madrid club an advantage over their competitors, including Barcelona, in the race to sign the Borussia Dortmund striker.

SPORT have learned that Madrid emissaries travelled to Monaco for a key meeting recently. Rafael Pimenta, the Brazilian lawyer and agent Mino Raiola's right-hand man (Raiola still has health problems) and the player's father, Alf-Inge Haaland met with them.

The Madrid representatives travelled to Monaco at the end of January to sound out a move for the Monaco midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni, who is represented by Excellence Sport Nation.

It's not known if that was cover, or if they want them both, but from there Madrid made contact with Pimenta and Haaland's father to close an agreement that blocks negotiations with other teams interested in the striker.

Summer decision

The final decision will depend on the player. If he decides to leave Dortmund this summer, Madrid will be obliged to step forward and sign him, not waiting until next year as they had asked.

Karim Benzema has a contract until 2023 and playing him alongside Haaland and Kylian Mbappe, with Vinicius also around, could create a complicated dynamic at the club.

Meanwhile, Madrid would also have to agree a fee with Dortmund. The relationship between the two clubs is good and the German side know of Madrid's interest.

The price is around 75 million euros, although Madrid will try and reduce that by offering Luka Jovic as part of the deal. Jovic has a good reputation in the Bundesliga after his time there with Eintracht Frankfurt.
