The two forwards have both scored in 13 consecutive seasons

Benzema's first goals this season came against APOEL on Tuesday

French forward Karim Benzema has been criticised for his form at Real Madrid for the last few months. With the BBC said to be in freefall, there was a response on Tuesday, in Cyprus against APOEL.

Madrid scored six goals in a Champions League rout, with Benzema scoring two of them. They were his first goals in the competition this season and added to the one goal he's scored in eight La Liga games.

With the goals, Benzema equalled a record held by Barcelona's Lionel Messi.

Benzema remined his fans, through Instagram stories, that he and Messi are the only players that have scored in 13 consecutive Champions League seasons.

In the Frencman's case, the first four seasons were with Lyon and the last nine with Real Madrid, while Leo's scored with Barça in all 13 seasons.

Remember that Ronaldo has not got the same record because in 2005/06 he only scored in the qualifying rounds as a Manchester United player.
