Real Madrid's new signing Takefusa Kubo said it was an honour for people to compare him to Lionel Messi, although he's a long way from the Argentine's level.
"It's something to be very proud of and I feel honoured but I'm not at that level yet. I want to focus on improving the skills I have now," Kubo said to the media in Sao Paulo ahead of the Copa America.
Kubo spent four seasons at FC Barcelona's La Masia academy before having to return to Japan in 2015 following FIFA's sanction on the club.
After signing for Real Madrid a lot of the media wanted to ask him about the move, why he didn't return to Barça, but Kubo said he would only be willing to speak about the Copa America.
"I only need to express the way I play, nothing more." Now, more than ever, the world will be watching to see what all the hype is about when Japan meet Chile on Monday.
