The former Madrid star is currently the assistant manager at Turkish side Besiktas

José María Gutiérrez Hernández, more commonly known as 'Guti', is the current assistant manager with Besiktas. He left his role as Castilla's coach to gain more experience at senior level as he plans to become a head coach. He's currently studying for his latest UEFA Coaching license, in Las Rozas, alongside established names such as Eduardo Berizzo, Joaquín Caparrós and Mauricio Pellegrino.

The Spaniard believes his time at Besiktas is helping his progression a lot. "It's going great. I'm working alongside a fantastic coach who has lots of experience under his belt and I'm taking away the positives."

In regards to his future, Guti confessed: "You can't rush these things. I'm happy with my situation. You never know in football, so I can't say that I'm going to stay, but my priority right now is to remain here."

Despite being content at Besiktas, the former Real Madrid midfielder has ambitions of coaching a major club in the future. "That's what I want. If I decided to leave the youth academy at Real Madrid, it was so I could manage a (senior) team as soon as possible."

Guti was also quizzed on the current 'crisis' at Real Madrid. "It's clear things aren't going well. To be honest I'm not following it closely because it clashes with the timetable and travelling with my current team."

Although he still believes Julen Lopetegui is the man to turn the situation around. "He's a great coach and he's going to show that at Real Madrid."
