Chelsea's Reece James emerges as a transfer target for Real Madrid

The England international could solve the club's full-back problem

The first leg of the quarter-final against Chelsea was about much more than taking an important step towards the Champions League semi-final. Real Madrid also kept a close eye on the performance of Reece James, one of their big targets for next season.

The full-back positions have been an Achilles heel this year for Ancelotti's side, who know they urgently need reinforcements. Chelsea's James would be the right wing-back of choice, while Alphonso Davies is the dream on the left.

James had a good game, keeping a close eye on Vinícius, who was once again the main headache for the Blues' defence. The English full-back's contract expires in 2027 but Chelsea's need to lighten their squad and wage bill, so could benefit from his departure. According to Marca, Chelsea's current situation could make the exit of James for around 50 million euros.

A more than reasonable and affordable price for a player of his stature, taking into account the shortage of proven full-backs and the high demand from the big European clubs.

Florentino is already working on putting together the squad for next season and is doing so once again with many of the big names on the table. Midfielder Jude Bellingham will undoubtedly be the big dream for Los Blancos, who could have in James a guaranteed reinforcement to solve the problem at full-back.
