Revealed: the huge contract offer rejected by Kylian Mbappé

PSG had offered the forward a whopping annual salary of €25 million after tax

According to a report in 'L'Équipe', French club PSG offered Kylian Mbappé a new contract two months ago that would have seen the player collect an annual post-tax salary of 25 million euros. This monster deal would have lasted until 2026, but the young forward rejected the offer.

In a report published on its website on Thursday, the L'Équipe provides details of the offer to which the club's sporting director Leonardo referred yesterday, when he told various media outlets that they had made Mbappé an offer "at the level of other top players". That €25 million euros (post-tax) salary would have meant the French club would have had to pay almost three times that amount if taxes and contributions taken into account.

According to the report, Mbappé rejected the offer because he did not want to commit for another four years. A couple of days ago, PSG tried to convince the player to extend his current deal by two years, which would have seen him stay at the club until 2024. However, this proposal was rejected too. The player is happy to see our the rest of his contract and spend a season playing alongside Messi and Neymar, but the club has been informed that he has no intention of signing a new deal.

Leonardo suggested that a deal could be struck when he said "if a player wants to leave, we aren't going to stop him. But he would have to go on our terms". The €160 million bid currently on the table from Real Madrid falls far below PSG's valuation of the player, given that they paid €180 million to sign him from AS Monaco a few years ago (and the fact that they will owe said club €35 million from any future transfer). According to 'Le Parisien', PSG are looking for 220 million euros in order to sell Mbappé this window.
