The Argentine was presented with the other new signings on the pitch at the game

PSG fans welcomed Lionel Messi with more enthusiasm than if there had been a goal. They presented their five new signings ahead of the clash with Strasbourg, with Achraf, Wijnaldum, Donnarumma and Sergio Ramos also introduced.

With fireworks, songs, flags and ‘Welcome Messi’ banners, the Argentine met his new fanbase for the first time.

Dressed in a ‘We Are Paris’ shirt, Messi was cheered by 48,000 fans. A bit like at the Joan Gamper, Messi was asked to speak, and he did, in Spanish.

“It’s been a special week, I want to thank everyone for the reception I’ve received, it’s been incredible, I’m very happy and excited to live in this new era. I hope we can enjoy this year.”

Meanwhile, by contrast, Kylian Mbappe was jeered by some fans because he is reported to want to leave the club.
