The Athletic Club defender is set to join Pep Guardiola's side

The cost of the operation will total around 70 million euros

Aymeric Laporte is going to Manchester City. The operation is set to be completed this week and the Athletic Club defender will play under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.

The deal will be worth the centre-back's 65 million euros buyout clause. City will also have to pay the Basque side five million more in formation rights.

Laporte, 23, has travelled to England to finalise the transfer, according to Cadena Cope. He has been chased by Europe's biggest clubs for a number of seasons, including Barcelona.

Guardiola wanted City to sign a new centre-back this summer to provide competition for Stones and Otamendi, with Kompany regularly injured. He missed out on Van Dijk, who moved to Liverpool.

That led City back to Laporta, who they unsuccessfully tried to sign in 2016. However, they look set to have better luck this time around.
