Xavi needs the support of everyone in and out of Barcelona

Barcelona and unanimity are two antagonistic concepts. Through the history of the club, division among fans has been a constant. Few times has there been absolute consensus. Not even Guardiola, nor Messi. Nobody has managed to get everyone entirely on the same page. That can be a signal of democratic health. The problem is that it sometimes creates radicals and clashes.

Now is the moment to change this.

The arrival of Xavi should be the start of the new era. Not just football, but socially and institutionally. Xavi, on Thursday, will be officially Barca coach. He needs this unity to build his project. Without that, it will be mission impossible. External support and, above all, internal support. There can’t be a shadow of a doubt about the confidence of everyone at the club in the new coach. Any fissure would be a step away from disaster.

The squad need a strong coach. Incontestable. With power. And legitimacy. An authentic leader. The revolution must go deep. On Saturday we saw that Barcelona can be much better than they have shown. Betting on kids like Nico and Gavi, the motor for the future. In fact, they were the best two players against Alaves. Their hope and talent alone is not enough though. Sergi Barjuan did not get the reaction he hoped. Two more points lost in La Liga. There was more intensity, circulation of the ball, but there’s still problems in attack and chance creation issues. Xavi has titanic work to turn Barcelona back into themselves. And he needs the help of everyone. Unanimous support. Without any schisms.
