We will enjoy this night of Lionel Messi... just in case
Lionel Messi’s future is still a big puzzle. He has to make his big decision before June 30. Not even those closest to him know what he will do. There are a lot of rumours and no confirmed news, beyond what Messi will ask of Laporta to stay - a winning project.
The Barcelona president has not yet met with the star player, having waited for the internal audit results. So tonight will be a special Clasico for Messi and for all Barcelona fans. Because it could be Messi’s last. It’s hard to imagine a Barca-Madrid clash without Messi. He has played 44 games, with 19 wins, 11 draws and 14 defeats. He’s the top goalscorer of all time in these matches, 26 goals. And the Bernabeu has been his garden. However he’s gone three years without netting against Real Madrid, since May 2018.
Messi’s transcendence at Barcelona is unquestionable. Not just as a the best player in their history but also as an icon of model and style. He’s been at the club in the first team for 17 years. Played 769 games. And scored 663 goals. Beaten all records possible after winning 34 titles, with 10 leagues, six Copas and four Champions Leagues. It is so hard to imagine a Barcelona without Messi. And it hurts. Enormously. But you have to prepare mentally for everything. Like Leo did last summer with that burofax to Bartomeu. I want to be optimistic and hope Messi continues. And that he finishes his sporting career at Barca. Scoring more goals, winning more Clasicos, lifting more titles. But, just in case, we must make sure to enjoy this night of Lionel Messi.
