It isn't my intention to convince anybody of anything. I don't care what you think. The same as the indifferent decision voted by a UEFA jury consisting of magnificent coaches and respected journalists. They're wrong. And I say that confidently as I'm not someone who goes against the grain for the sake of it: there isn't and won't ever be anyone who plays football better than Lionel Messi.

Leo has been the best player of last year, the year before that and the one before too. And it continues that way until he put on football boots for the first time. As Laporta said: everyone else should learn from him. He's maintained such a high level year upon year, Sunday to Sunday, and in Barça's shirt he's unrivalled.

Our memories can be selective and cause us to forget things very quickly, but I encourage everyone to watch videos - it's all recorded - of Leo Messi. Start with his goals. You'll see they come in many different forms. Some, from the beginning of his career, were due to his explosion of pace. Now he's about impressive technique and accurate aim. You'll see lots of works of art that you'd forgotten about, which were lost amongst many other memories.

Afterwards, watch the videos of his assists. His repertoire is unlike anything you've ever seen before. I also believe there's one, if my memory doesn't let me down, which is 15 minutes long and shows all of his nutmegs.

And, after seeing all of them, I challenge you to find me a single player not just that could equal Messi but who could be compared with the Argentine. I'll await you here. Because not Maradona, not Pele, not Cruyff and certainly not Cristiano Ronaldo have maintained such an excellent level of performances like Barça's current captain has and continues to produce. So he hasn't won the World Cup? So what? Results we can talk about another day but when you talk about the best, there isn't any doubt. Messi is the best - and by a large distance. He was yesterday, he is today, he will be tomorrow and he will be forever. And you, the Madridista who is reading these words, you also know this is true although you'll never admit it.
