The stars don't seem to be aligning for Spain. After the sacking of Julen Lopetegui, a dubious penalty was given against them and David de Gea gifted Portugal a goal when La Roja were on top as they kicked off their World Cup campaign on Friday with a 3-3 draw.

Meanwhile, there were also tactical problems in the first half: they let Guedes and Cristiano Ronaldo receive the ball in front of the centre-backs. They didn't even take much care of them when they had the ball and the were able to counter too easily and too often.

Spain got back into the game thanks to the push, guts and fight of Diego Costa -- who showed why he should be the No.9 in this side -- and Fernando Hierro's team were on top from there and created more dangerous occasions.

After falling behind again following De Gea's mistake, the players showed great personality to react to the adversity they faced, with a goal from a set play and a wonder strike from Nacho (he was really good). But it didn't end well despite the fact they were superior to Portugal.

The frustration came in the form of a Ronaldo free-kick as the Real Madrid man completed his hat-trick to close a magnificent game -- one which we can already say will be one of the best at this World Cup.

The problem for Spain was the poor performance from De Gea, who aligned with Florentino Perez, Luis Rubiales and Julen Lopetegui to prevent La Roja getting the win they deserved. The Manchester United goalkeeper and a certain Portugal forward were the decisive factors in the game.
