Barcelona's squad is traditionally put together based on a mixture of home-grown players, trained in the youth academy, with top-level signings. The club has been fortunate to have the best players in the world in its ranks, starting with Kubala and continuing with Cruyff and Maradona.

An example of this potential with trend-setting players is that Barça is the club that has won the most Ballon d'Or awards. Many of them for Messi (7) but also for Suárez, Cruyff, Stoichkov, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho and others who played half a season at Camp Nou before lifting the trophy with other clubs such as Ronaldo or Figo.

Barça have also spent a lot of money on signings but the results have not always been as expected. Other players who have not adapted or have not been given the right circumstances to touch the sky.

The top 5

I would like to highlight the top 5 best signings in Barcelona's history. And, for me, this list would include Rivaldo, Ronaldinho, Luis Enrique, Stoichkov and Koeman. These are the five players who have most endeared themselves to the hearts of the fans.

There are others who have performed excellently and deserve to be there, such as Luis Suárez, Alves, Henry or Neymar, to name a few, but my selection would be made up of the aforementioned.

Barça paid a transfer fee for all of the top 5, except for Luis Enrique, who arrived on a free transfer. It was because he was fed up with Real Madrid and because Cruyff convinced him, although he never played under him.

The No.1

Luis Enrique was not the most gifted of them all (surely one of the least gifted of the top 5) but nobody, in my opinion, nobody, became as loved as he was because he put something into the games that went beyond the sporting aspect: all his soul, his competitiveness, his charisma, his leadership and his intelligence in the service of Barcelona.

Nor was he the most successful of the 5. Again, probably the least, as he only won 11 trophies in eight seasons, but the winners are not always the most loved.

Luis Enrique was, and is, special and his figure will always be linked to FC Barcelona despite having played for or coached other teams. He was unique as a player -- and he proved it again when he sat on the bench.

This is, of course, an opinion, as valid as any other. So, I would like to know what the general feeling of the fans is: who do you consider to be the best signing in the club's history?
