Rubiales teaches Florentino a lesson

Luis Rubiales has made the most difficult, most controversial and most complicated decision possible by leaving the national team without a coach only two days before the World Cup starts. As a relatively new face in the hot seat he could've been overcome with nerves but instead demonstrated that he won't be taken for a fool by anyone.

He was brave, took a step forward and made the decision which can be completely understood by fans. With some impeccable answers to close the press conference, it was clear that he had made the best decision for the team.

Maybe the easiest decision would've been to accept Lopetegui's decision and cowered to Real Madrid, a team which went behind the back of the Spanish FA to negotiate with its head coach. It appears as if Florentino Perez has met his match, someone who won't let him the Real Madrid president run roughshod over everyone in their wake. Rubiales let it be known that he can't be bullied and the Spanish FA aren't a plaything for the biggest clubs in the country.

Now it's time to make other big decisions. There needs to be a replacement and the players need to be spoken to so this doesn't impact the team spirit. But the first impressions under Rubiales reign is that the Spanish FA are no longer going to be pushovers.
