Quique Setien presented his candidacy to be Barcelona's future coach on Sunday. Maybe he will never sit on the Camp Nou bench, because football's dirt track is very fickle, but Real Betis' brilliant win, their style of football and his constant references to Cruyff and Guardiola position him as a firm option. The most important thing Setien proved was that you can play like Barça (the best version of Barça) without having players like Xavi and Iniesta.

The idea is above everything else. And everyone. Even those that execute it. It's always easier, of course, to play like that with players that were born with that style in their mind and their legs. And, above all, it's easier to win with them on the pitch. But Pep also plays the same way with Manchester City (the 3-1 win over Manchester United was a lesson: 44 touches in more than two mintes to score a golazo) and Setien with Betis.

Of course Ernesto Valverde's Barça could do the same. But to play in that manner, you have to believe inthe style. And be prepared to accept the consequences. And Valverde is not (neither was Luis Enrique) a traditionalist of the model. The opposite, in fact. Some times, it even seems that it's the players who play in a certain way, against Valverde's own principles...
