Pedrerol: Xavi's Barcelona give Real Madrid a "bath"

What a show from Barça and how ridiculous from Madrid. It's clear, Xavi's team wanted to win the Super Cup at all costs and Madrid didn't care that much. Or so it seemed yesterday. Barca’s game was a lesson: possession, pressure, arrival in the box and goals. Gavi and Pedri dominated the midfield as they wanted, imposing themselves physically and with their football. What a display. And De Jong? How good he is, how well he has done by staying. The Madrid thing, on the other hand, was dramatic. Ancelotti’s team has dipped after the World Cup. Most players are out of energy and out of ideas. Modric and Kroos are the clearest examples. But also Rudiger, Mendy, Valverde and Camavinga. What can you say about Vinicius, who didn't even appear in the entire final. Courtois has been filling the cracks in recent games, but he can't stop everything. And from the bench there are no solutions either. Although the worst thing about Madrid is that the attitude is not good enough, something non-negotiable in any team and more so in a team that has made their faith in victory the envy of all of Europe.

Barça’s famous DNA appeared and they won a title again. The debate was about winning or playing well, putting the style above the result or adapting it based on the rival. A non-negotiable way of playing or negotiating it in each game. Yesterday two philosophies faced each other, but without victory there is no worthwhile philosophy. Barça scored goals and played wonderfully - the perfect combination. Xavi has the football of the best Barcelona in history on his retinas. The players change, but he does not renounce a way of playing that is practiced from the Masía upwards, something that makes Culés proud. The mistake is despising the other football, the one that Real Madrid represents. That of believing until the end, that of never giving up, that of putting the result above style, that of being able to adapt to the rival, that of the kings of Europe... The ones who were missing in action in the Super Cup. Xavi achieved two things yesterday: his first trophy as Barça coach and giving Ancelotti a pasting. The Italian has to kick off, getting the players, more than one of them, to focus before it is too late.

WHISTLES AND APPLAUSE

  • Sevilla, in the drop zone. When will Monchi give explanations?
  • Another draw for a soulless Atletico. The cycle is over
  • The Basque derby was a great, an example of passion and respect
  • Will Nadal win another Grand Slam? It doesn’t matter, he’s the best ever
