Ousmane Dembele owes Barca one

Barcelona invested a lot of money they got from Neymar’s sale in Ousmane Dembele. It was a risk to bet on the young Frenchman, but he had some devilishly good things at Borussia Dortmund and it seemed like a world class youngster was coming to the club.

But in reality that was not the case. His bad habits, weak mentality and consistent string of injuries left him with no place at Barca, and it seemed like a lie that he had reached 40 games by the end of his second season, leaving no mark.

It’s true that a goal every now and then made us dream, but it stayed just that, a dream.

He seemed a lost cause but this season, his fourth, he has finally let us see the Dembele that is capable of overloading defences, combining with team-mates and get goals.

After everything we’ve been through with him, now it seems the club has a new problem, with his contract and the idea that he can walk away for free at the end of next season.

It’s true that a contract is a contract and if Barca tied him down for five years then when that’s over he can walk away. But in terms of what he should do, he has too many open accounts with the club to just expect to walk away for nothing.

Barca have been very patient with Ousmane and the Frenchman would do well to go into the offices and negotiate either a new deal or an exit, so Barca can get some money for him.

If Dembele continues to ignore Barca they should not stutter when it comes to putting him on sale. Hopefully the situation changes course and Dembele ignores the siren songs and finally focuses on Barca.
