I don’t want Real Madrid to win their 12th European Cup. Why? Because I would not be able to bear all the national propaganda that would come with the triumph of Zinedine Zidane’s men in the Champions League. This is why I hope Atletico knock them out in the semi-finals. Because I am convinced that if Madrid get to the final they will win it. Just as they have done on the last five occasions they have played there, the two most recent ones - 2014 and 2016 against Atletico. And, of course, without deserving it…

Real Madrid have the competitive gene that allows them to win titles without playing well. The opposite of what Barcelona have. The Blagurana need to be the best to be the champions. And this produces envy. Because many of the titles they have at the Bernabeu are undeserved. Not even to mention those stolen with refereeing help and the collusion of national and international governing bodies. Like their first six European Cups, won in black and white.

I want Atletico to beat Madrid and not have to suffer another final like last year. With those cruel penalties that cursed them. And they deserved to win in 2014 when Ramos scored his miracle goal. I want Atletico to knock Madrid out and the media cavern to have to  swallow the pride that they have had for so many years. Like the majority of Cules I want this because I cannot bear what Madrid represents.

I would have liked, of course, Barcelona to be in the draw. But after their KO against Juventus, that was impossible. And now once again we have to back Atletico. Or the winner of Juventus vs Monaco in the final. We will wear the shirt that we need to. To support Madrid’s opponents. Whoever they will be.
