There was a time, not so long ago, when Barça played (and won) Champions League finals. It was the most glorious period in the club's history, with the most talented and powerful team of all time. Four titles were won in ten seasons (Paris 2006, Rome 2009, London 2011 and Berlin 2015). With three different coaches (Rijkaard, Guardiola and Luis Enrique) but with a common denominator: spectacular football. Unfortunately, those wonderful years will never come back. Because that generation of players is unique and unrepeatable. We have to accept the harsh reality of the current situation. Barça is rebuilding itself with the aim of competing in Europe again. And it is doing so in very adverse circumstances. Which makes it even more difficult.

But, fortunately, the Culés have the extraordinary consolation of the Barça women's team, which has taken over as the continental standard bearer. Giráldez's side qualified on Thursday for their third consecutive Champions League final (fourth in five years) after drawing 1-1 with Chelsea at the Spotify Camp Nou. The Blaugranas want to make their legend even bigger with a second title (they won in 2021) that lives up to their social and footballing significance. In front of 72,262 spectators totally committed to the cause, Barça made good the 0-1 scoreline from the first leg at Stamford Bridge and made history once again. They really are an example to follow.

BARÇA OF THE MEMBERS

President Laporta and the economic vice-president Romeu wanted to send a strong message on Thursday about the rumours of the reconversion of Barça into a limited company. "The Espai Barça is essential in order to protect the ownership model and to continue to have a competitive team," they assured. And the great fear that is fed from certain sectors of the Blaugrana environment is that this board of directors will cause Barça to cease to belong to its members and pass into the hands of an investment fund. The signing of the financing agreement for the Espai Barça, worth 1,450 million euros, has increased suspicions in this sense.

And what if it is not possible to pay back such a large sum of money? Romeu tried to scare away that fear with very detailed explanations of how the new income generated by the Spotify Camp Nou (some 247 million euros per year "being prudent") will be paid back. And he made very clear all the red lines that will not be crossed. The most important one: the ownership model will not be touched.
