Alarms in Madrid as two titles lost in four days

All the alarms are going off at the Bernabeu. There are nerves and fear. Barcelona's second visit in the space of four days has created panic at Real Madrid hQ. Many supporters feel Wednesday's Clasico loss could be followed up by another defeat on Saturday, plummeting Madrid into a deep crisis. Florentino Perez fears a rebellion against the board. There have already been calls for him to resign. Santiago Solari's just a holding figure on the bench and the discontent is focused at Perez. Times are hard -- he is paying the price for letting Cristiano Ronaldo go without having a guaranteed replacement. 

Madrid's lack of a goal threat was clear in the Copa. Neither Benzema nor Bale have resolved the problem. And Mariano certainly hasn't, whose signing has been mocked. Madrid have lost their 'pegada' and even luck has abandoned them at times. Valverde's side, without being at their best, were able to win 3-0. It's never been seen before. The Bernabeu has become Madrid's bogey man. 

Saturday's game will increase the morbo. Messi and Co. start the match with a nine point lead in La Liga, backing their counter-attacks and ruthlessness to see them through. Madrid will be nervous because while Barça can't win the league this weekend, Los Blancos could lose it. In four days they could wave goodbye to two trophies. The blow of being knocked out of the Copa del Rey was big. Bidding farewell to La Liga -- a loss will see them slip 12 points off the pace -- so early in the season could have unpredictable consequences. It would, once again, be all or nothing in the Champions League.
