Odegaard: I felt it wouldn't be good for me to return to Real Madrid

The Norwegian midfielder spoke about his decision to go to Real Sociedad

Martin Odegaard is in form. The Real Sociedad midfielder is on loan from Real Madrid. The 20-year-old arrived there in 2015 and after a struggle there and various loans, he's finally showing his best form.

"I feel at home," said Odegaard. With a contract at Madrid until 2022, he recognised that he wouldn't be in the first team plans this season.

"At the end of last season I felt it wouldn't be good for me to go back to Madrid," he added. "For young players, and for me in this moment, it's very important to have playing time. In Madrid, I think it's really hard to get that.

"There are a lot of good players there and huge competition. It was obvious that it's better for me to go on loan, I think the club accepted it too, that's why we decided it so quickly.

"I'm enjoying myself here and it's going well, so I'm very happy. I'm comfortable and I feel at home, it makes everything very easy, I felt right from the first moment.

"My objective is still to play for Real Madrid. That's why I signed for them, I want to play there one day. I think I've improved in the past two years. I think I'm a better player and more mature, and stronger."
