The Dutch side confirmed the transfer on Monday evening

There was a shock in the Premier League on Monday as Liverpool beat arch-rivals Manchester United to the signing of PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo.

Out of nowhere, following Liverpool's 3-1 win at Aston Villa, the Dutch international's move to Anfield was confirmed by PSV for a "club record" fee for an outgoing player.

Various reports suggest the total cost of the deal, including add-ons, is around €50 million.

Gakpo was one of the revelations of the World Cup and, in Europe, everyone wanted to get their hands on him, but Jurgen Klopp has beaten Erik ten Hag to his signature.

The German coach, therefore, adds another forward to an already extensive attack. Salah, Darwin Núñez, Firmino, Luis Díaz, Diogo Jota, Oxlade-Chamberlain, in addition to the youngsters he has, are joined by a new 'dagger' in the frontline.

12 goals & 14 assists

Gakpo not only played a spectacular World Cup, scoring goals in all the group stage matches, but his season was already outstanding prior to that. With PSV, he has 12 goals and 14 assists in 19 games, a figure that is no longer going to grow.

Now it remains to be seen what performance he will have in the Premier League
