Neymar showed off his ankle injury on social media on Monday

The Brazil international was taken off on a stretcher on Sunday

Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar is already on the recovery trail after injuring his ankle in his side's 3-0 win against Marseille just nine days before the game against Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Neymar, in tears, was carried off on a stretcher after rolling his ankle and underwent tests at the American Hospital in Paris.

On Monday, he uploaded a photograph on social media after his coach Unai Emery had said he was "optimistic" the Brazilian would be available for the clash with Madrid next week.

Emery said in his post-game press conference:  "If I had to pick my Real Madrid side now, I would say that Neymar could feature. The first look says it is a sprain. There will be further tests to be totally sure. We are optimistic."

PSG have not revealed the extent of the damage but the hope is that it's just a minor sprain and that there is no ligament damage.

Neymar will hope to be back in time for the game against Madrid in the French capital, with PSG needing to turn around a 3-1 loss from the first leg at the Santiago Bernabeu earlier this month.

For now, the recovery has begun and PSG will nervously await the results of the latest tests on Monday...
