The Argentine star will avoid prison thanks to the agreement

He used the same lawyers as international team-mate Mascherano

According to El Confidencial, Paris Saint-Germain's Angel Di Maria has reached an agreement with the State Attorney's Office in Spain for a one-year suspended jail sentence and a €2 million euro fine after being accused of tax evasion while he was a Real Madrid player.

Spanish prosecutors accused the Argentine international of failing to pay €1.298.989,56 euros in 2012 and 2013, when still a player in Spain. According to the complaint, Di Maria used a company in Panama to avoid paying taxes.

Di Maria hired Diego Artacho and David Aineto -- the same lawyers who were hired by Javier Mascherano -- to look after his case. On the basis of the deal he's struck, he will not go to prison but will be left with a criminal record.

Mascherano also agreed a similar deal, paying a fine and taking a suspended sentence. Fellow La Liga players Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have also found themselves emboriled in high-profile tax cases in recent years.
