The rapid left back is now an established member of the first team after making his debut for the senior side one year ago

This Sunday, Real Betis have announced that Junior Firpo has signed a new contract at the club. The speedy full back, 22, has signed a five-year deal and his buyout clause increases to €60m.

Although he was born in the Dominican Republic, Junior had been training at various clubs in the Malaga region until he joined Betis' academy in 2014. He's played for the youth sides at the club as well as Betis Deportivo.

Last summer the left back took part in preseason with the first team but a serious injury prevented him from making his debut until February against Deportivo, at Riazor. He played thirteen consecutive matches from that point on, scoring two goals and providing plenty of assists too.

The Dominican, who is also a Spanish citizen, confirmed in a press release by the club that he was "proud and happy" to live what he calls "a dream".

"A few months ago I was playing with the academy side and in a short space of time I've made my debut, helped the team qualify for the Europa League and now signed a new contract. 2018 will be a year I never forget," concluded Junior.
