Girona hit five past Mallorca to move temporarily top of LaLiga

The Catalan side continued their stunning start to the season on Saturday

Girona moved temporarily top of LaLiga with a thrilling 5-3 win over Mallorca at Montilivi on Saturday.

The Catalan side have now won five games in a row after drawing away at Real Sociedad on the opening week of the season.

They have 16 points from a possible 18, three more than Barcelona and one more than Real Madrid, who both player later this weekend.

Vedat Muriqi had given Mallorca a fourth minute lead from the penalty spot but the home side rallied before half-time.

Goals from David Lopez, Artem Dovbyk, Ivan Martin and Yangel Herrera meant Michel's side went into the break with a 4-1 lead.

The impressive Savinho continue his brilliant start to the season by adding the fifth goal in the second half.

Mallorca grabbed two late consolation goals through Abdon Prats, but by the time his second went in deep in stoppage time, the game was already won.

Girona will now be tested in the next week with a trip to Villarreal, before hosting Real Madrid next weekend.
