Getafe's Markel Bergara could retire from football and this would free up a spot in their squad for the young midfielder

Getafe's president Angel Torres has admitted he's waiting to talk with FC Barcelona over a January loan move for Carles Aleña. The young midfielder would replace Markel Bergara in their squad.

Aleña hasn't played much this season and Ernesto Valverde has admitted his team is suffering from 'overbooking' in midfield.

"I'll speak with them this afternoon, or tomorrow, to see whether or not the kid will stay there. I like Carles Aleña and wanted him two years ago. He could cover the place if somebody else left," admitted Torres.

The Getafe president admitted that the only way someone would come in if he another player left. There's a lot of speculation that it could be Markel Bergara. The 33-year-old has suffered horribly from injuries since 2017 and is considering retirement.

"If no one leaves, no one will come in. But Markel is tired of suffering and if he retires, we'll have a spot open. He wants to retire and we'll need to replace him, although we've got a good enough squad to still have a good season," said Torres. "The market is open and there are players who want to join us. We're in the Europa League and any deal which could improve us now, or for the future, is something we'll value."
