Strike in Liga F as no agreement reached over competition's minimum wage

Players unions have announced a strike for the first two weeks of the new season

The 2023/2024 Liga F season was scheduled to start this weekend but the lack of agreement between the league and the unions for the renewal of the collective bargaining agreement for women's football has finally led to a strike.

After a first meeting on Monday in which no agreement was reached, the parties met again on Tuesday at the SIMA (Interconfederal Mediation and Arbitration Service), also without agreement, and returned to meet again on Wednesday to try to unblock the situation, but without success.

Before the announcement of the call for strike action, the parties had already scheduled Monday's meeting, in which the main differences concerning the minimum wage were discussed. This is currently set at 16,000 euros and the players' claim is for it to reach 30,000 euros in the 2024-2025 season, with an amount of 20,000 with retroactive effect for last season and 25,000 for this season.

The last proposal put forward by the league was to start with the amount of €18,000 and reach €25,000 in the third season. On Wednesday, they made a one-season offer of €20,000 with the possibility of reaching €23,000 based on the competition's revenue. It was rejected.

The unions FUTPRO, AFE, CCOO, Futbolistas ON and UGT announced on Sept. 1the call for a strike for the first two matches of the competition, which was due to start on Sept. 8 (Friday) with the match Sevilla-Tenerife (21.00h).

Spanish women's football has already experienced several strikes, the first in November 2019 when the players demanded the first collective bargaining agreement and had a unanimous following.
