Cortes left the role and now his assistant has been appointed in his stead

It’s official. After Lluis Cortes left his role as Barca Femeni coach, the club have announced the arrival of Jonatan Giraldez as the new man in charge. He was Cortes’s assistant last season so he knows the project first hand and the team’s objectives.

The club, who were also thinking about appointing Rafel Navarro, in the end opted for Giraldez to keep on the route set out by Cortes and the general manager of women’s football, Market Zubizarreta.

After winning the treble, Giraldez will have a difficult job of following that up. At least he knows the ins and outs of the group and has experience with them, as well as as an analyst and even fitness coach.
