The midfielder was given the prestigious trophy in Paris once again

Alexia Putellas keeps making history. The Catalan won the Ballon d’Or for a second consecutive year.

The midfielder became the first woman to win the competition two years in a row. She became just the second Spaniard to lift it last year for the first time after Barcelona won the treble. This year it was only a double, but she won it it anyway.

She is the first midfielder to win the trophy with Ada Hegerberg in 2019 and Megan Rapinoe in 2019 both forwards.

Alexia scored 34 goals and gave 21 assists in 43 games for Barcelona, finishing as the top scorer in the Champions League with 11, and third in La Liga with 18 goals. She led the assists in the league with 17 and added two in the Champions League.

Alexia is currently out with an ACL injury in her knee and is set to miss the rest of the season.

“Without my team-mates this would not have been possible, I want to thank the staff and the coach and everyone involved at Barcelona,” she said.
