FC Barcelona's Alexia Putellas is one of the three finalists for The Best award alongside Beth Mead and Alex Morgan. The FIFA award rewards the performance of the most outstanding players between 7 August 2021 and 31 July 2022.

The winner will be announced on 27 February 2023 at an event in Paris. Up to 14 players were initially nominated for the award by a jury of women's national team coaches, women's national team captains and fans who voted on FIFA's official website.

Putellas is aiming to win the award for the second time after being the winner in the previous edition. The midfielder is again among the nominees after being a key figure for Barça during the 2021-22 season. Barça won every title except the Champions League, where they lost to Lyon in the final.

Putellas scored 11 goals in Europe's top competition and a total of 34 in all competitions. The midfielder is recovering from a serious injury and is expected to return to competition in around two months.

The other two contenders for the award are Beth Mead (Arsenal), who won the Euros with England, and American international Alex Morgan (San Diego Wave).
