Barcelona optimistic that Nico Gonzalez will renew his contract

The midfielder has had an impressive season with the B team and drawn comparisons with Busquets

Good news from the offices at FC Barcelona. According to ‘Què t’hi jugues’ on Cadena Ser, the wheels have been set in motion on Nico Gonzalez's contract renewal.

Mateu Alemany and Ramon Planes met with the player's camp on Monday. They transmitted the club's desire to keep hold of the Galician midfielder and said he would do pre-season with the first team. He's viewed as the best in-house replacement for Sergio Busquets.

Nico González, who's only just turned 19, is out of contract in June, as this is the final year of his deal which covered him until the end of his time with Juvenil A -- even though he's already broken into the B team.

For years he has always played ahead of his age group and his intention is to make the first team. Ronald Koeman is following him closely and his performances for the B team have been impressive.

After Monday's meeting, here's optimism at Barça and they believe they will be able to renew one of the best midfielders to come through La Masia in recent years.
