They did the job once again in the Europa League

Sevilla won their seventh Europa League title by beating Jose Mourinho’s Roma on Wednesday night on penalties.

World Cup-winning penalty taker Gonzalo Montiel did it again in the shoot-out here, even though his final effort needed to be retaken.

Roger Ibanez and Gianluca Mancini missed for the Italians from the spot, with the brilliant Sevilla goalkeeper Yassine Bounou making two fine saves to deny them.

Mourinho led Roma to Conference League glory last season and they went ahead on the night in Budapest, through Paulo Dybala after Ivan Rakitic gave up the ball easily.

However Sevilla netted early in the second half, an own goal from Mancini, after Jesus Navas’ cross hit him and flew into the net.

Bounou made a stunning save from close-range to deny Tammy Abraham and the game went to extra time, and then penalties.

Chris Smalling headed against the bar for Roma but Sevilla won their seventh Europa League final out of seven when it came to the penalties.

“We have something special in this competition,” said Fernando, Sevilla’s holding midfielder.

“I don’t know what it is, but things just go for us.”
