Italy 3-0 Turkey: Azzurri kick off Euro 2020 in Rome with impressive win

Roberto Mancini's side were far too good for Turkey in the tournament's opener

Italy kicked off Euro 2020 in style with an impressive 3-0 win over Turkey in Rome on Friday.

A Merih Demiral own goal and strikes from Ciro Immobile and Lorenzo Insigne sealed three points for Roberto Mancini's side in the tournament's opening game.

The Azzurri were not ranked among the favourites for the tournament but this performance may change the thinking of some.

It was goalless half-time but Italy always looked on top against a Turkey side that were surprisingly reluctant to get bodies forward.

Juventus defender Demiral opened the scoring inadvertently in the 53rd minute when he turned home Domenico Berardi's cross for an own goal.

Lazio's Immobile added the second just after with a smart finish from close range.

Napoli's Insigne completed the scoring with just over 10 minutes to play with a really well-taken goal from the edge of the box.

Wales meet Switzerland on Saturday in Group A's second game.
