The numbers of signatures obtained by the Barca presidential candidates

Joan Laporta led the way, followed by Victor Font

Joan Laporta says there are no favourites in the Barcelona presidential race, but he had by far the most signatures as the pre-candidates for Barcelona’s president tried to make the cut on Monday.

Laporta got 10,257 signatures, double what he previously obtained (5,725 in 2003, 4,272 in 2015).

Victor Font, his closest contender, managed 4,710 signatures.

Then came Toni Freixa with 2,821, while Emili Roused has 2,501. The cut was 2,257.

Other candidates fell away. Agusti Benedito, Jordi Farre, Xavi Vilajoana will not be able to contest the election.

It looks likely that it will be a head to head between Laporta and Font.

The former wants Barca fans to get optimistic and hopeful again, using his charisma as a big selling point. Font, on the other hand, has laid out his designs and long-term plans for the club, including bringing in Xavi Hernandez as coach - although he’s not exclusive to Font.
